Water quality advisory issued for Alberta Beach on Lac Ste. Anne

ALBERTA BEACH– Due to elevated levels of bacteria, Alberta Health Services (AHS) is advising the public not to swim or wade at Alberta Beach on Lac Ste. Anne, effective immediately.

Elevated levels of bacteria were detected via testing of the lake water at this beach location. At current levels, gastrointestinal illness may result from ingestion of the water at Lac Ste. Anne. There is also the possibility of skin, ear and eye infections with water contact.

Recreational water quality can be influenced by several local environmental factors, such as the presence of wildlife, stormwater runoff, domestic animals, and/or weather conditions. Local community activities are not known contributors for this water quality advisory.

As always, visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any body of water, including Lac Ste. Anne, at any time. Water-borne organisms, including fecal bacteria, can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
