Water quality advisory issued for Lake Midnapore public beach areas

August 28, 2026

CALGARY – Due to elevated levels of bacteria, Alberta Health Services (AHS) is advising the public not to swim or wade at public beach areas on Lake Midnapore, effective immediately.

Elevated levels of bacteria were detected via testing of the lake water at these beach locations. At current levels, gastrointestinal illness may result from ingestion of the water at Lake Midnapore public beach areas. There is also the possibility of skin, ear and eye infections with water contact.

As always, visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any body of water, including Lake Midnapore, at any time. Water-borne organisms, including fecal bacteria, can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
