Alberta Cancer Foundation fundraiser

Story by Tom Gillespie

The first puck dropped Feb. 6 on the World’s Longest Hockey Game, a challenge of the Guinness World Record and fundraiser to help in the fight to conquer cancer.

For 10 consecutive days, 40 players, referees and volunteers will raise money for the Alberta Cancer Foundation to support the purchase of a new PET-MR for the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton.

More than $2.1 million has been raised since the first World’s Longest Hockey Game in 2003, funds that have pioneered revolutionary projects in support of patients at Cross Cancer Institute and beyond.

Funds from this event have played a large role in enabling researchers at the Cross Cancer Institute to expand the boundaries of knowledge in cancer research, treatment, prevention and patient care in Alberta and across the globe.

The public is invited to visit the rink any time to show their support for the skaters.

You’ll find them at Saiker’s Acres, 52269 Range Rd. 220, Sherwood Park.
