The Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre (SMCHC) is paying forward the spirit of giving to the community through a series of campaigns that will distribute items to Calgarians in need.

“These campaigns are about caring for the people in our community, and the people we serve,” says Sherry Heather, Site Director, Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre. “We want to do our part as a site, to ensure that the people we look after have the things they need.”

On March 1, 2016, the SMCHC launched its first Give Back campaign, that focuses on collecting and distributing art supplies for children in need, helping to foster creativity, growth, learning and development.

Throughout the month of March, Calgarians are asked to collect and fill shoe boxes with art supplies that will be distributed to a number of local organizations who work with underprivileged children. Each box should contain approximately $12 in supplies, and the Centre is looking to collect 2,000 boxes.

“Unfortunately, many kids in our community don’t have access to basic art supplies outside of school,” adds Heather.

“It’s important that all children are able to invest in their own imagination through the creation of art, and it’s our goal to put these creative tools in the hands of at least 2,000 children in our community who need them most.”

Shoeboxes can be dropped off at SMCHC, 1213 – 4 Street SW, Calgary, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. The campaign runs from March 1 – 31, 2016. For more information call 403-955-6202, ahs.ca/giveback
