Glenda Yeates, appointed as Member of the Order of Canada.
Story by Amy Cooper
Glenda Yeates, Board Member of Alberta Health Services, has been awarded the nation’s highest civilian honour.
On June 30, Gov. Gen. David Johnston announced Yeates has been appointed a member of the Order of Canada.
In a news release, Johnston’s office said Yeates was receiving the honour “for her service within the governments of Saskatchewan and Canada, notably for her immense contributions to maintaining and improving health care for Canadians.”
Yeates signed on as a Board member with AHS in November 2015, and helps with its governance in partnership with Alberta Health. She has 32 years of experience leading large and small organizations and served as Canada’s Deputy Minister of Health from 2010 to 2013. In addition, she was president and CEO of the Canadian Institute for Health Information from 2004 to 2009, the Deputy Minister of Health in Saskatchewan from 1999 to 2004, and prior to that served as Saskatchewan’s Deputy Minister of Social Services.
The Order of Canada was established in 1967, during Canada’s centennial year, to recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. Over the past 49 years, more than 6,500 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order.
Yeates is the second member of the AHS Board to be honoured in the past week. On June 27, Board Chair Linda Hughes was appointed to the Alberta Order of Excellence. Yeates joins 112 Canadians newly appointed to the Order of Canada.
