Solar eclipse will happen August 21, 2017
On Monday, August 21, the shadow of the moon will pass over Canada during a solar eclipse. This occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, culminating with the moon fully or partially blocking the sun. A solar eclipse allows us to see the sun’s tenuous atmosphere — the corona — glowing around the moon.
For Canadians, the path the moon is taking means that we will see only a partial solar eclipse, while other parts of North America — specifically Oregon to South Carolina — will be treated to a total solar eclipse.
In Alberta, the partial solar eclipse will happen between approximately 10:20 am - 12:50 pm, peaking around 11:33 am.
