Celebrating Volunteers Week

Because You Cared: Passion for volunteering bridges generations

Our latest Because You Cared video, filmed at the Canmore General Hospital, features the birthdays of two special volunteers; two-year-old Violet Bisbing and 100-year-old Helen Emery. While almost a century separates them, a common thread runs through each - a sincere desire to make a difference. This same desire is present in each and every one of our volunteers. Please watch this brief, inspiring video and share with your family, friends and colleagues so they can see the passion demonstrated by our volunteers every day at AHS.

Alberta Health Services would like to acknowledge the incredible impact our volunteers make every day at sites and facilities across the province, especially during National Volunteers Week, April 15-21.

Last year, 14,850 individuals volunteered more than 1 million hours of their time to the organization.

Our volunteers cover a variety of important roles, from pet therapy with patients to running the gift shops, facilitating bereavement classes to cuddling babies. Others generously give their time as advisory council members, sharing feedback on programs and community priorities, or the inspiring group of individuals who support 69 foundations and help raise $250 million in funds annually for healthcare initiatives throughout the province.

Whatever the role, patients and families, and our staff and physicians benefit from the expertise, skill, experience and passions of our volunteers. Whether a volunteers is on, or behind the frontline, they each have an impact on the support given to the patients, residents and clients we care for.

Please extend a “thank you” to each and every volunteer you meet or consider sending a note through thanksforcaring.ca.
