One-stop health care services available to community

EDMONTON – Alberta Health Services today officially opened the East Edmonton Health Centre, a new facility that brings together numerous services under one roof to promote community-based care.

The new East Edmonton Health Centre, located on the grounds of the former Cromdale School (7910-112 Ave.), replaces the nearby Eastwood Public Health Centre. The new 60,000 square foot site is a one-stop shop where a dedicated health care team provides multiple services, including: home care; social services; dental; speech and language programs; communicable diseases programs; and, mental health and addictions services.

The East Edmonton Health Centre will continue to expand, with planned growth including the addition of urgent care and family medicine.

“With over 16,000 visits for health care services in its first six months of operation, this new centre is building a foundation of community-based care for the residents of East Edmonton,” said Gene Zwozdesky, Minister of Health and Wellness. “The 5-Year Funding Plan we announced in this year’s provincial budget has resulted in immediate actions that ensure better access to quality health care throughout our province.”

Serving a population of over 62,000, which includes over 7,000 seniors and 9,000 students in 25 schools, this $44-million health centre will meet the current and future needs of East Edmonton communities.

“Health centres such as these are the cornerstones of our local health care delivery models,” said Dr. Stephen Duckett, President and Chief Executive Officer, Alberta Health Services. “This location has allowed us to consolidate services into a one-stop shop for families, improving their ability to access quality care. We are looking forward to continuing to work with the community to meet their health needs with a range of services.”

Alberta Health Services is building and renewing facilities across the province to provide accessible, sustainable, quality health care to all Albertans. With nearly $5 billion invested in active construction currently, AHS has more than 1,000 projects in various stages of completion in every zone of this province.

Taking into account the diverse needs of Albertans, AHS is strategically investing in the health system to support patients and communities in staying healthy and managing illness effectively.
