Volunteers needed to aid seniors in hospital, community

MEDICINE HAT – Alberta Health Services is seeking individuals willing to volunteer their time to support elderly patients in hospital and in the community.

Applications are now being accepted for the following programs and projects:

  • Therapeutic recreation volunteers are needed to support leisure activities at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, on the 2 North and 6 West units, starting at 10 a.m. daily; end times are flexible depending on volunteer availability. Volunteers bring patients to and from the program and help with the activities. Volunteers can choose the day(s) that will work for them.
  • Community leisure volunteers strive to enhance the quality of life for clients living in the community. Volunteers encourage participation in a variety of healthy leisure activities that promote socialization and decrease isolation and loneliness. This volunteer opportunity is flexible; volunteers are matched with clients based on common interests.

Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of six months, or 60 hours.
