New family physician now practising in Fairview

February 25, 2016

FAIRVIEW — Local residents have increased access to primary care with the arrival of a newly-recruited family physician now practising in the community.

Dr. Rohan Rossouw is a family medicine physician who arrived in Fairview earlier this month. He is providing care at the Fairview Medical Clinic and the Fairview Health Complex, and was recruited through the ongoing efforts of Alberta Health Services (AHS) and its community partners.

Mayor Gordon MacLeod, who also chairs the North Peace Regional Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee, says Dr. Rossouw is a welcome addition to the community.

“It’s always a pleasure to have new physicians come to our community,” says Mayor MacLeod. “Dr. Rossouw is a great asset to the community and, on behalf of the Town of Fairview, I’d like to formally welcome him and his wife to Fairview.”

Dr. Rossouw and his wife, Gabby, moved to Fairview from South Africa earlier this month.

Dr. Rossouw received his medical training at the University of Pretoria and has experience in emergency, primary, inpatient and outpatient care.

“We’re always working to recruit new family physicians to communities across the AHS North Zone and think Dr. Rossouw is a great fit for Fairview,” says Susan Smith, one of the three AHS physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities for AHS North Zone. “We’re lucky to be able to work closely with the local physician recruitment and retention committee here and have made progress recruiting physicians to Fairview.”

In less than two years, three new family physicians have been recruited to Fairview, for a total of five family physicians now practising in the community.

In his spare time, Dr. Rossouw enjoys travel, good food and wine, and cars. He and Gabby are newlyweds, married in January. Together, they are looking forward to being a part of the community and are excited about living in Fairview.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
