Newly recruited family physician practising in Mayerthorpe

July 4, 2016

MAYERTHORPE — Local residents in Mayerthorpe have increased access to primary care with the arrival of a new family physician in the community.

Dr. Prasanna Yelnadu is a family medicine physician who trained in South Africa and India, in affiliation with the Royal College of Edinburgh in the U.K. He is now accepting patients at Family Practice Associates in Mayerthorpe.

“Dr. Yelnadu is an excellent addition to health care in the community,” says Dr. Mary Aird, Mayerthorpe Community Medical Director. “I am pleased that he has made the decision to practise and live here in Mayerthorpe.”

Dr. Aird was instrumental in connecting with Dr. Yelnadu and introducing him to the clinic and community.

“Family physicians are a crucial part of the health care system so we’re very pleased to welcome Dr. Yelnadu to Mayerthorpe,” says Dr. Craig Hodgson, Associate Zone Medical Director. “His arrival will increase access to primary care for residents of the community and surrounding area.”

Dr. Yelnadu is a good fit for the community, says Kim Fleming, one of the two physician resource planners dedicated to identifying and pursuing physician recruitment opportunities for Alberta Health Services North Zone.

“He’s personable, humble and has a passion for the work that he does,” Fleming says.

Dr. Yelnadu says he looks forward to improving the community’s overall health.

“I believe that not only physical but also mental and spiritual strength make the backbone of a healthy community,” Dr. Yelnadu says. “I would like to contribute to the community whatever way I can.”

The physician is here with his wife, Shanti, and daughter Arpita, who is about to enter Grade 2. They enjoy spending time in nature.
