Fibre cable cut near Dixonville impacts communications in northwest Alberta

September 14, 2016

Communications at three health care sites in northwest Alberta have been restored, and operations are returning to normal at these facilities, following a cut fibre cable earlier this evening.

A fibre cable cut about 20 kilometres north of Dixonville, on the westside of Highway 35, impacted communications with several northern communities.

Dixonville is about 43 kilometres of Grimshaw, and 212 kilometres northeast of Grande Prairie.

The fibre cut impacted phone lines and some wireless networks at St. Theresa General Hospital in Fort Vermilion, La Crete Continuing Care/Community Health, and Manning Community Health Centre.

Phone lines returned to full service about 10:30 p.m. this evening at all three impacted sites.

Data services have been also been restored at La Crete and Fort Vermilion, and should be back online in Manning later this evening.
