Workshop provides tools to manage pediatric pain

November 24, 2016

CALGARY – Parents of children and teens who may be facing challenges with managing pain can learn valuable strategies and tips for coping through a free education and awareness workshop offered by Alberta Health Services.

Led by a team of scientists, physicians, psychologists and other experts specializing in pediatric pain, the PICH2Go (Pain in Child Health 2Go) pain coping workshop helps patients and families connect with local and international pediatric pain experts.

The event runs Nov. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mountain View Atrium on the fourth floor of Alberta Children’s Hospital. Registration is not required.

During the open house-style event, parents can view interactive exhibits showcasing state-of-the-art practice and research in pediatric pain. Families can connect with pain experts and learn about the available professionals who can work with their children to make their pain more manageable. The workshop will also provide parents the opportunity to ask questions and gather information from top pediatric pain specialists from throughout North America.

PICH2Go Calgary is co-hosted through a partnership between the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and its Pain in Child Health strategic training initiative, and pain leaders from the Alberta Children’s Hospital and Stollery Children’s Hospital.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta.
