New local family physician expected to open practice in fall

July 27, 2017

TOFIELD – A second full-time physician has been recruited to practise in Tofield following recruitment efforts of Alberta Health Services (AHS) and its partners.

Dr. Mursi Jallad is relocating from Edmonton to Tofield where he plans to start a family medicine practice in the fall. Dr. Jallad has spent the last two decades working in rural and urban communities across the province. He has worked in Camrose, Sturgeon and Fort Saskatchewan as a surgical assistant, and recently completed an international family medicine residency.

“I am glad Dr. Jallad chose Tofield for his practice,” says Tofield Mayor Harold Conquest. “I want to thank all at AHS for their work in recruiting him.”

Dr. Jallad will join current Tofield physician Dr. Salahdine Abuzehar, and AHS continues to recruit for a third doctor for the community. Tofield’s physicians serve the community, Beaver County and the Town of Ryley, as well as surrounding areas.

Prior to establishing his practice, Dr. Jallad is mandated to complete a College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) three-month Preliminary Clinical Assessment (out of community), followed by a three-month Supervised Practise Assessment (within Tofield).

“It’s a pleasure to announce the addition of Dr. Jallad to the Tofield and Central Zone medical team,” says Dr. Evan Lundall, Medical Director for AHS Central Zone.

“We know there is still work to be done before he can begin to deliver care but are pleased with our progress on recruitment to date.”

AHS has two physician resource planners dedicated to identifying and pursuing physician recruitment opportunities for AHS Central Zone. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Physician Action Plan, and independent community physician recruitment and retention committees.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
