New family physician now practising in Tofield

March 2, 2018

TOFIELD – A new family physician is now available to provide care to Tofield and area residents after opening practice at the Tofield Medical Clinic.

Dr. Mursi Jallad opened a full-time family medicine practice earlier this week after being recruited to the community last year and completing his licensing requirements. Dr. Jallad has spent the last two decades working in rural and urban communities across the province, and has worked in Camrose, Sturgeon and Fort Saskatchewan as a surgical assistant. He recently completed an international family medicine residency.

“It’s a pleasure to announce the addition of Dr. Jallad to the Tofield and Central Zone medical team to help care for local residents,” says Dr. Daniel Edgcumbe, Acting Zone Medical Director for the Central Zone of Alberta Health Services (AHS). “This is very positive for the community.”

Dr. Jallad will perform a full scope of practice, including inpatient and outpatient care, long-term care and participation in emergency department on-call coverage at the Tofield Health Centre.

Dr. Jallad will join Dr. Salahdine Abuzehar in serving the community, Beaver County and the Village of Ryley, as well as surrounding areas.

Dr. Mohammed Muneer plans to continue practising at his clinic when his appointment with AHS comes to an end March 11. After this time, Dr. Jallad and Dr. Abuzehar will provide care and on-call support to all patients at the Tofield Health Centre.

“We are grateful for the hard work and care Dr. Muneer has provided over the past six months,” says Dr. Edgcumbe. “We would like to reassure Tofield residents that they will continue to get the care they need at the health centre whenever they need it.”

AHS has two physician resource planners dedicated to identifying and pursuing physician recruitment opportunities for AHS Central Zone, including in Tofield. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Physician Action Plan, and independent community physician recruitment and retention committees.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
