Tofield Health Centre heliport temporary closure extended during hospital maintenance

June 6, 2018

TOFIELD – The temporary closure of the heliport at Tofield Health Centre will be extended to allow for planned foundation and loading dock repairs to be safely completed at the facility.

During this time, all STARS helicopters will continue to land at the nearby Tofield airport, which is approximately nine minutes away. Ground ambulances will be used to transport patients to and from the health centre and airport. This is common practice in other communities across the province. It is a safe option.

The $1.25M foundation repair project at the Tofield Health Centre will repair portions of the foundation and waterproof them to assure longevity. This will include the loading ramp, which will also be replaced.

New concrete retaining walls will be installed where required and a portion of the parking lot will be repaired and repaved. Funding for this project comes from the Government of Alberta’s Infrastructure Maintenance Program (IMP).

Work on the foundation and loading dock will not impact any public parking or access to entrances. There will be a continued impact on staff parking spaces and staff will be asked park offsite in the neighbouring residential areas.

Motorists are reminded to please slow down when approaching or driving in construction areas and obey all posted signs. The project is expected to be completed in the fall at which time the heliport will re-open.
