Newly recruited family physician accepting new patients

FAIRVIEW — A new local family physician – Fairview’s fourth – is now accepting patients.

Dr. Susie Lindquist started providing care at her clinic in the Fairview Medical Centre and at the Fairview Health Complex in July. She’s returning to the community after serving here as a medical student in 2015.

“The friendly people and the chance to incorporate the clinic, complex care and emergency medicine into my family medicine practice are what drew me back,” says Dr. Lindquist, whose special interests also include gynecology, prenatal care and pediatrics.

Originally from Victoria, B.C., Dr. Lindquist received her degree at the University of Alberta and completed her medical residency at McGill University.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Dr. Lindquist to the community,” says Dr. Sandra Corbett, North Zone Medical Director for Alberta Health Services (AHS). “Family medicine physicians are an important part of a person’s healthcare team as they are often a patient’s first point of contact. She’s a great addition to our local care team and her skills are a valuable asset to residents.”

Mayor Gordon MacLeod, who also sits on the North Peace Regional Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee, says the arrival of Dr. Lindquist is a great benefit for Fairview.

“It’s always a pleasure to have new physicians come to our community – and many women in the community, in particular, are looking forward to the addition of a female physician to the local medical team,” says Mayor MacLeod.

AHS continues to work with community partners to recruit family physicians to northern Alberta.

“Physician recruitment is not a one-person job,” says Dr. Karen Lundgard, AHS Associate Zone Medical Director. “The arrival of Dr. Lindquist would not have been possible without support from our partners and the community. The efforts of the local physicians in recruiting and welcoming Dr. Lindquist are also to be commended.”

Dr. Lindquist says she and her husband, William Martinez Linares, are looking forward to learning more about the community and exploring the natural beauty of the Peace Country.

In her spare time, Dr. Lindquist enjoys running, boating, skiing, travelling, cooking and learning new languages. She is fluent in English, Spanish and French.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
