Tofield Health Centre heliport to reopen

October 26, 2018

TOFIELD – The heliport at Tofield Health Centre is scheduled to reopen Sunday, Oct. 28.

It has been temporarily closed in order to safely accommodate a series of repairs at the facility.

Those repairs are now either complete or at a stage in which it is now safe for the heliport to reopen.

Roof repairs were completed in May and replacement of the loading dock was finished at the beginning of October.

Repair and repaving of a portion of the parking lot is expected to be completed by the end of the month, at which time the hospital will be able to resume full use of the staff parking section and ambulance bay. Hospital leadership would like to express their appreciation to the community for their patience and understanding over the last several months, while the impact of parking limitations has been seen and felt on nearby streets.

Planned repairs to the foundation continue. They include waterproofing portions to ensure longevity and installing new concrete retaining walls. The final phase of the project, slated to begin in the next few weeks, will involve the installation of trench drains and pouring of concrete in the patio area at the front of the hospital. Landscaping will complete the project in spring 2019.

As with previous phases of this project, there will be no impact to services provided at the health centre as this work is underway.

Funding for the $1.25-million foundation repair project comes from the Government of Alberta’s Infrastructure Maintenance Program (IMP).

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta.
