AHS hosts free screening of organ donation documentary

April 8, 2019

CALGARY — Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites the public to a free screening of the CBC documentary, Vital Bonds, on Tuesday, April 16, at the Globe Cinema, 617 8 Ave. S.W.

The film is in support of National Organ Tissue Donation Awareness Week, which runs April 21-27.

Filmed at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Vital Bonds follows the story of a deceased donor and his family, as well as four patients and family members waiting for transplant. The film makes a powerful statement about the need for organ donation, the importance of discussing donation with family and the impact of transplantation.

The film runs from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is followed by a one-hour Q&A discussion with a panel of organ donation representatives from the Southern Alberta Organ and Tissue Donation Program, and an organ donor recipient family.

No registration is required. Seating is provided on a first-come, first served basis.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta.
