FORT McMURRAY- The Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray remains open and fully operational at this time, while the area remains under a special air quality statement as a result of smoke from wildfires in northern Alberta.
Patients and clients currently receiving care at the facility are safe, and healthcare services are continuing as normal.
Our air management systems ensure that patients and staff at the hospital are protected; however, every opportunity to reduce risk of additional smoke in the patient environment is important.
As such, in order to prevent smoky air from entering the facility, AHS is currently encouraging visitors to limit their visits to patients and residents being cared for at the hospital at this time.
Additionally, those who do need to visit the facility are asked to enter through the Emergency Department doors.
Again, these measures are additional precautions, aimed at ensuring that the air inside the facility experiences limited impact from the wildfire smoke outside.
