Emergency department temporarily closed at Consort Hospital

December 23, 2021

CONSORT – The Consort Hospital and Care Centre emergency department (ED) will be temporarily without on-site physician coverage December 29 -31 and January 4, 6, and 7.

Patients presenting to the ER during regular operating hours on these dates will be assessed and triaged by nursing staff, and may be diverted to Coronation hospital, approximately 50 km away.

This is a temporary measure due to a gap in locum coverage, and is being taken as a last resort.

EMS will be called if emergency care is required, and will be prepared to transport patients to other nearby facilities during this temporary closure.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency.

Depending on their needs, patients seeking care may call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency, health-related questions.

Long term care and community support beds will not be impacted.

AHS is grateful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff, and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
