HIGH PRAIRIE — Local and area residents have improved access to primary care with the recruitment of a new family physician.
Dr. Jerryton Oriabure is now providing care at High Prairie Community Health and Wellness Clinic and the High Prairie Health Complex. He is accepting new patients, and can be reached through the clinic at 780-523-2868 or the complex at 780-523-6440.
Dr. Oriabure’s recruitment brings the number of family physicians in the community to six.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome a second new physician to High Prairie this year,” says Pat Rehn, MLA for Lesser Slave Lake. “Recruitment for rural Alberta is a priority for the provincial government and this shows the kind of results that dedicated efforts can produce.”
Dr. Ali Niazee of Community Health Services is also excited to welcome Dr. Oriabure to the community. “Dr. Oriabure has quickly become a valued part of our robust team of local physicians,” he says.
Most recently, Dr. Oriabure worked at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Irrua, Nigeria, providing family medicine services in outpatient clinical care and the emergency department.
Multiple options are available for High Prairie and area residents depending on their healthcare needs, including the High Prairie Health Complex emergency department, local family physicians, walk-in clinics, local pharmacists, Health Link (811), primary care networks, and online at MyHealth.Alberta.ca.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) continues to recruit for physicians across northern Alberta to meet community needs. AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician attraction and retention committees.
