Pharmacy Alberta is a provincial program within Acute Care Alberta (ACA) that advances safe, effective, and sustainable medication management across Alberta's health system. Through strategic leadership, collaboration, and innovation, we work with health service delivery organizations to improve patient outcomes and strengthen the quality of care for Albertans.

What We Do

Pharmacy Alberta supports pharmacy teams across Alberta by enabling the services, systems and standards that make safe and effective medication use possible. From ensuring timely access to medications to advancing medication safety and quality, we help create the conditions for excellent care delivery.

We provide provincial leadership in medication management by:

• Establishing clinical and technical pharmacy practice standards to support consistent, evidence-informed care.
• Leading medication procurement, distribution, formulary management and drug stewardship initiatives.
• Advancing medication safety, quality improvement and best practices across the health system.
• Providing oversight of pharmacy systems, data, reporting and provincial performance measures to support informed decision-making.
• Supporting research, education and continuous learning to advance pharmacy practice.
• Promoting responsible stewardship of medications and healthcare resources.
• Collaborating with health service delivery organizations, clinical teams and system partners to improve medication management across Alberta.

Through innovation, collaboration and leadership, Pharmacy Alberta continues to strengthen pharmacy practice and support a safer, more effective and sustainable healthcare system for all Albertans.
