Injury Prevention & Safety

While some injury risks for children exist in both urban and rural environments, there are major injury risks that are unique to rural settings such as rural machinery, rural animals, open bodies of water, and suffocation hazards.

  • ​​Many children live on or visit farms and rural areas. Children in rural areas are at risk for different types of injuries.
  • Children should only participate in farming activities when they are physically and developmentally ready, regardless of whether they were raised on the farm or not.
