To deliver leading, comprehensive cancer care that integrates patient and family-centred care, education, prevention, screening and cancer research.
Inspired by the concept of an embrace, Arthur Child's design prioritizes comfort and care. The interconnected L-shaped towers form a central courtyard bathed in natural light, creating a serene environment conducive to both healing and innovation.
Patient and family advisors emphasized the importance of daylight and outdoor access, especially for patients spending extended periods undergoing treatment. The building's design maximizes sunlight exposure, with strategically placed lightwells and rooftop terraces offering peaceful outdoor retreats.
Arthur Child features 6,200 square meters of accessible outdoor space, including multiple courtyards and rooftop terraces. These areas provide patients and families with opportunities for reflection and relaxation amidst the natural surroundings.
Additionally, the building incorporates dedicated quiet spaces like the Sacred Space on the Main Level and the Quiet Space on the Lower Courtyard Level. These spaces offer a peaceful haven for patients and families seeking solace, a moment of respite between appointments, or a place to rest while visiting loved ones.
The Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre is a leading facility in Canada, combining cancer research and patient care. As a comprehensive cancer centre, it offers a specialized approach that integrates scientific investigation with clinical treatment.
