BEAVERLODGE — Alberta Health Services (AHS) has signed a lease agreement for Beaverlodge’s planned Mountview Health Complex project.
The new state-of-the-art health complex will replace the current Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital. This new infrastructure will meet current health-facility standards and better support local delivery of more innovative and effective health services.
The services offered by AHS at the new facility will include outpatient care, ambulance services, inpatient care, community health services and various clinical support services such as imaging, labs, pharmacy and rehabilitation.
"Our goal is to create a facility that not only meets the highest standards of medical care but also reflects the unique needs of Beaverlodge and area," says Stacy Greening, Chief Zone Officer for AHS North Zone. "We extend our gratitude to the community, our partners, and everyone who is supporting making this goal a reality."
With the lease in place, developer Landrex will proceed to the project’s next steps. Project design will begin shortly, with construction of the 9,000-sq.-m. facility expected to begin in spring 2024. The new health facility is slated to open in 2028 and the services offered will complement the healthcare available at the nearby Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.
The current Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital opened in 1956 and is one of the oldest hospitals in Alberta.
"The replacement of the Beaverlodge hospital is critical to our community and our region says Gary Rycroft, mayor of Beaverlodge. "We are very proud to be able to have led this innovative project, with our partner Landrex Inc., from conception to this announcement. The Mountview Health Complex will ensure that residents will continue to have access to a high level of care well into the future."
The new health facility will be built on 20 acres of land donated to the town for this specific purpose by the McFarlane family in 2015.
"We are especially grateful to Doris and the McFarlane Family for their generosity and vision for healthcare services in Beaverlodge," adds Greening.
The Mountview Health Complex Committee (MHCC) was established in the spring of 2020 with the goal to create a new home for health services through the use of private funds. The MHCC includes representatives from AHS, the Town of Beaverlodge, County of Grande Prairie, Horse Lake First Nation and the Grande Spirit Foundation.
