CALGARY – Alberta Health Services (AHS) has completed a review at McKenzie Towne Care Centre in response to several complaints at the continuing care facility.

Several areas for improvement were recorded, and McKenzie Towne Care Centre has implemented changes in response to the review and its recommendations.

AHS continues to work with the operator of the facility and an AHS monitoring team remains on site.

“All continuing care residents, including those at McKenzie Towne Care Centre, deserve care in an appropriate, timely and responsive fashion,” said Brenda Huband, Interim President and CEO for Zone and Health Operations of AHS.

McKenzie Towne Care Centre has been collaborative and responsive in working through the audit process and risk mitigation plans with AHS. AHS will continue to work with the facility to support the provision of care to residents at the facility.

AHS also undertook an in-depth review of all wound care cases and practices, involving AHS skin and wound specialists. That review is complete, and recommendations are being implemented by both McKenzie Towne Care Centre and AHS.

At the same time AHS was conducting its clinical care audit, Alberta Health was conducting a standards review at the facility to ensure all provincial standards were being met.
