Caring For Your Child at Home

Discharge Instruction Sheet

  • It is important to follow the written discharge instructions you received from the nurse on how to care for your child at home.
  • If you have any questions about your child's care after you get home, please call your surgeon's office or clinic.
  • Some discharge instruction sheets are available online

Contacting Your Surgeon

  • If your child is having a problem that you need to report to the surgeon or that you are concerned about:
  • Call your surgeon's office or clinic. If the office or clinic is closed, there may be a phone message letting you know what to do or who to call.
  • If you are unable to reach your surgeon, call the Alberta Children's Hospital switchboard at 403-955-7211 and ask for the surgeon on call. To help direct your call, you may be asked the name of your child's surgeon, the type of surgery your child had (e.g. ear surgery, dental surgery) and the reason you are calling.
  • If you are unable to reach the surgeon on call, go to the Alberta Children's Hospital Emergency Department.

If you have questions about any prescriptions filled at the Alberta Children's Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy, please call the pharmacist at 403-955-7303. Hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
