
Whether you’re visiting for an appointment, supporting a loved one, or staying with us for care, the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre is designed to help you feel supported throughout your time here.
You’ll find accessible spaces, helpful wayfinding features, and volunteers available to assist as you move between areas. There are also places to rest, reflect, connect with others, and access services such as dining, retail, and information resources.

A number of washrooms, the elevators, doorways and designated parking spaces are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs are available throughout the building including the parkade for your use.
Volunteer resources is offering a daytime shuttle service that can bring you comfortably from the Foothills Medical Campus to the Health Sciences Building and the Arthur Child, and back. Look for pickup location signage at each end of the connector, located on the west end of the second floor at Arthur Child. The Shuttle may not always be available.
Access to a new five-level underground parkade under the Arthur Child, as well as other parkades around the Arthur Child on the Foothills Medical Centre campus. Learn more.
There are both indoor and outdoor options for patients and families.
There are two lower courtyards, one of which features outdoor seating. The inner courtyard, located on the main floor, also provides outdoor seating along with green space.
Within the courtyards there are options to help you honour your cancer journey, learn more about Acknowledging Milestones.
Place for Indigenous community members to reflect and gather, decorated by our Indigenous partners. Located on the main floor.
Library with public computers and comfortable seating. There are educational resources like books, pamphlets, and brochures. Staff are available to help you find and use health information, located on the main floor.
Offers comfortable seating, a fireplace, views and access to one of the courtyards. This space has a variety of places to reflect or relax, located on the lower courtyard (P2).
There is a roof top terrace available on the 8th floor that offers breathtaking views of the city. This area has greenery, and tables with chairs.
Non-denominational place for worship or reflection, located on the main floor.
The Red Threads Gift Shop offers a selection of clothing, cards and other items. All proceeds from the Red Thread which is volunteer run are directed back to the site for patient care initiatives.

Located on the main floor, there are a variety of food options available for purchase.

We are a smoke-free environment. Those who wish to smoke can do so off the centre's property. The property includes parking areas, vehicles parked in parking lots, outdoor spaces and sidewalks on the site.
Staff members will say their name, occupation and what they will be doing when approaching and working with you. Staff will also be wearing their staff photo ID. If a staff member does not identify themselves, feel free to ask them who they are.
Protective Services Officers are responsible for the safety of everyone in our building. They are an important part of the care team. You can request that a protective services officer walk you to your car by visiting the front desk.
Your healthcare and care plan will remain confidential and your privacy will be upheld throughout the cancer centre. That is your right.
Charging stations for phones are available in the waiting spaces on each level of the building and each patient room.
Cell phones can be used throughout the cancer centre.
Wireless internet access is available throughout the building.
There are no set visiting hours at Arthur Child. Family and friends are permitted to visit their loved ones at any time. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the building for our patients and their families to gather.
The centre is divided into themed sections and is colour coded. These colours are found on some walls, and by elevators. They are also used in icons.
Signage is posted throughout the building to assist you in finding your way.
Volunteers will be available to assist you in wayfinding throughout the building. They will be easily identified by the red vest they will be wearing.
There is a golf cart available for transport through the connector that connects Foothills Medical Centre and the Arthur Child.
