Inpatient

Catered Comfort

Catered Comfort, a first in any AHS facility, is a patient meal ordering app that allows our patients to order food up to two days in advance to be delivered at their convenience. Meal options available are based on individual nutrition plans determined by your care team. Learn more.

Dynamic Glass

Is an innovative glass technology, controlled by the patient environmental controller (PEC) in inpatient rooms, that enhances energy efficiency by adjusting how much sunlight and heat enter a building. By controlling the amount of heat and light that enters the building, Dynamic glass helps maintain a comfortable indoor environment, reduces energy use, and lowers operating costs.

Patient Environmental Controller (PEC)

Your room has features to make your stay more comfortable. You can control these features with an ipad called the Patient Environmental Controller, or PEC.

The PEC lets you adjust:

  • Windows – let in more or less light by choosing a window tint (light, medium or dark). After changing the tint, it can take up to 30 minutes to change. The window tint will reset every two hours.
  • Temperature – use the plus and minus buttons to adjust the room temperature by a few degrees.
  • Lights – adjust the light in your room, including main room lights (general) and the lighting over your bed (reading and accent).

Patient Lifts

All patient rooms are equipped with a patient-lift system. This system will aid the care team in safely transporting patients to and from the washroom and bed.

Single Rooms

All patients who stay overnight with us will have a single occupancy room with a private bathroom. This will allow for more privacy; more room for family and friends and offers a more home-like environment.

Sleeper Sofas

Each inpatient room is equipped with a sleeper sofa that will allow family comfortable seating and a place to rest should they decide to stay with patients overnight.

Acknowledging Milestones

Your experience of cancer is unique to you and is made up of different milestones and moments. You might want to honour or celebrate some, like your first or last treatment, or a test result. Other moments may be difficult or sad, but you may still wish to acknowledge them.

You have two options to honour your journey. A gong has been set up outside, in the inner courtyard on the main level of Arthur Child. The gong can only be heard faintly inside the building, so you can ring it as loudly as you want.

For an indoor option, long bells (similar to chimes) have been set up inside on the lower courtyard (LC) level near the green elevators. The long bells are set up in a common area to recognize that milestones and moments can happen anywhere — not just in the treatment areas.
