AHS Laboratory Services is committed to patient safety, staff safety and general safe working practices related to working with blood and tissue specimens.
As part of the accreditation process, we are required to ensure checks and balances in a number of areas.
The Provincial Laboratory Safety group works closely with the Provincial Workplace Health & Safety group.
Currently, xylene and formalin monitoring is carried out within the province. This process is carried out in conjunction with Workplace Health & Safety.
The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is a nationwide system to provide information on controlled products (hazardous materials) used in the workplace. WHMIS recognizes the interests of the worker, employer, supplier and regulator in balancing the worker’s right to know with industry’s right to protect confidential information.
