Finding Us

Patients having a procedure in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab are asked to present themselves at the Cardiac Recovery Room, which is located on the 1st floor of the Robbins Pavilion at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

From the main doors of the Robbin’s Pavilion on the ground level, take the elevators or stairs to the 1st floor. Turn right and proceed down the hall and check in for your appointment at the reception desk for Cardiac Procedures and Clinics.

From the main entrance of the Royal Alexandra Hospital on Kingsway Ave, follow the signs to the Robbins Pavilion.

What to Expect

After checking in at reception, you will be taken into the recovery room where a nurse will ask you to some medical questions and take your vitals. You will be asked to change into a hospital gown. If written consent has not already been provided, a physician will review the procedure with you and obtain consent prior to the procedure.

An IV will be inserted prior to your procedure.

Once the procedure is complete you can expect to stay two to four hours. If you have an angioplasty, you may be kept in the hospital overnight and discharged the following day.

Arrange for a responsible adult to pick you up from the Cardiac Recovery Room as you will not be able to drive yourself home. If you live alone, you will need to arrange to stay with someone or have someone stay with you overnight for one night. If you live outside of Edmonton, you will need to make arrangements to stay in the city overnight - view Out-of-town Visitors.
