Before Your Surgery

Before surgery, both your nurse and the Surgical Suites team will double check all your information with you.

The surgeon will write his or her initials on your operative side when meeting with you before surgery.

In the Day Surgery reception area there is a screen for the SMARTRACK for family and/or support people. SMARTRACK shows what stage your surgery is at or if you've gone to Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU).

The clerks in Day Surgery can help you to understand this if needed.

What to Expect

You will first go to the Day Surgery Unit to get ready for surgery. Once your surgical team has spoken with you in Day Surgery, you'll either walk or be taken by stretcher to the operating room.

For your safety, the team will do the "Safe Surgery Checklist" to make sure your information is correct.

The anaesthesiologist will then prepare you for your surgery.

Once your surgery is finished, you'll be taken to the PACU until your anaesthetic wears off.
