Critical Care Program

The Pediatric Critical Care programs at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton provide critical medical care to children within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU). These vital programs provide an environment that supports critically ill premature infants, infants, children, and youth along with their family.

The multidisciplinary critical care team, including intensive care physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dieticians and other allied health professionals work collaboratively to provide excellence in clinical critical care service that is safe, effective, timely patient and family-centered.

The pediatric critical care program promotes best clinical practice, as well as fostering education, research and quality improvement initiatives guided by contemporary evidence-based medicine and enhanced locally by an active and productive clinical research program. Our critical care programs are recognized at a regional, national and international level for excellence in critical care.
