Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre – Surgical Department Expansion
Highlights
- Alberta Health Services (AHS), in partnership with Alberta Infrastructure, is expanding and upgrading the surgical department at Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre.
- The project includes construction of a new addition on the northwest corner of the hospital to house a modern Medical Device Reprocessing Department, where surgical instruments are cleaned and sterilized. These improvements will enhance access to surgical services for patients in the Ponoka area.
- Construction has started, and nearby residents may notice increased traffic and construction noise. All work is being carried out in accordance with Town of Ponoka bylaws.
- Steel framing and exterior construction will begin in fall 2025, with interior redevelopment to follow. The project is expected to be complete in 2028.
- A short-term road closure is planned at 59 Street and 59 Avenue between late June and mid-July to allow for underground water service connections.
- Patients, staff and visitors are asked to follow signage and use caution near the construction area.
