Audiologists are hearing specialists. They evaluate and support infants, adults and children with hearing loss, ringing in the ear (tinnitus) and balance disorders.
What Do Audiologists Do?
- Screen, identify, evaluate and diagnose hearing and balance disorders
- Counsel, treat, and help manage/rehabilitate those with hearing concerns
- Support families, educators, caregivers and others to help individuals with hearing loss improve their hearing, communication and hearing health
- Assess and treat individuals for cochlear implantation
- Prescribe, fit and dispense hearing aids and other amplification and hearing assistance technologies
- Perform ear or hearing-related surgical monitoring
- Promote hearing health
- Collaborate with and refer to other agencies and professionals
