Outpatient Services

Ambulatory care provides outpatient services to cardiac patients. This includes both clinic visits & specialized on-site diagnostic imaging and treatments. All services are provided on a referral basis. A number of cardiac ambulatory care clinics are offered at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute to meet unique patient needs. Clinics are offered on site; however, patients may also have the option to visit their healthcare provider via telehealth. Clinics strive to actively participate in ongoing research that impact evidence-based practice and positive patient outcomes.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation is a fundamental component of the cardiac care continuum and is vital to creating positive and sustainable health outcomes for individuals with heart disease through secondary prevention. Attending cardiac rehabilitation can reduce your risk of having another heart event as well as decrease your chances of returning to hospital. We can also support you in returning to work and the activities you enjoy.

Cardiovascular Surgery

The Cardiac Surgery program at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute is a leader in adult and pediatric cardiovascular surgery, serving patients from across western Canada including central and northern Alberta, northern British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories and Yukon.

The program supports one of the largest heart-lung programs in western Canada serving a land mass of size of greater than 65 million km2.

Linking Alberta Health Services Emergency Medical Services paramedics and emergency medicine physicians across central and northern Alberta to cardiologists within the Edmonton Zone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
