Creating Partnerships

Children, youth and their families are at the centre of how we provide care at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Creating partnerships with patients and families allows us to deliver world class care with compassion and respect.

The family and the child or youth are valued members of the care team ensuring a collaborative, consistent and continuous approach in a family centred care environment. The Stollery is a place to receive care and healing in an environment where:

  • Everyone is treated with respect and dignity
  • We communicate and share complete and unbiased information with patients and families in ways that are affirming and useful to you
  • You are encouraged to build on your strengths through participation in your hospital and healthcare journey to enhance control and collaboration with your health care team
  • Collaboration between families, patients, doctors and nurses; not only in the delivery of care but in policy development, program development and professional education

Patient and family centred care at the Stollery means families and patients are partners from the bedside to the boardroom and everything in between. Families and patients are encouraged and supported to be active members of their care team.  We recognize that families and patients have unique experiences and can offer valuable information as partners in the operation of the hospital.
