Cancer of the uterine cervix is the third most common cancer of the female genital tract, and 12th most common cancer overall, in women and people with a cervix.
The 5 year survival rate for cervical cancer is about 71%. Most cases are detected early by Pap tests, in women under the age of 50. In November 2025, cervical cancer screening was changed in Alberta to the Cervical Screening Test (HPV primary testing) for women and people with a cervix aged 50-69. A Pap test remains the primary screening test for those aged 25-49.
