Supportive Care & Living Well

Cancer patient navigators are registered nurses who can support you in understanding more about the next steps in your treatment and guide you in finding the right supports and resources you need throughout your cancer journey. This service is available for adolescent and young adults with cancer (ages 17-39), Indigenous people with cancer, and for people with cancer at our Community Cancer Centres.

Navigator Types

Adolescent & Young Adult

Adolescent & young adults navigators are registered nurses who work within a team of different professionals to help people 17-39 years old live well with and beyond cancer.

They may give you information and education about common concerns young adults with cancer have and can connect you with community supports.

These navigators can refer you to an oncologist or team within the adolescent and young adult care stream.

Indigenous

Indigenous cancer patient navigators are registered nurses that help Indigenous People impacted by cancer. They help to bridge medical care with whole person wellness and can help with the details of navigating the cancer system, understanding your care, and coordinating appointments.

Indigenous cultural liaisons are Indigenous staff helping Indigenous People with cancer at the Cross Cancer Institute and the Arthur Child Cancer Centre. They help support people with cancer and their families, and bring a focus on cultural safety, bridging connection, and supporting spiritual and traditional practices.

Community & Regional Centre

These cancer patient navigators are registered nurses who work in Cancer Care Alberta's regional and community cancer centres to provide information and support to patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.

They can help you prepare for appointments or upcoming tests, coordinate appointments, and connect you to resources, as well as Cancer Care Alberta and/or community supports.
