Collective kitchens are community-based cooking programs where small groups of people get together to cook. There are several terms for collective kitchens, including “community kitchens”, “cooking clubs” or “cooking circles”.

Collective kitchens can:

  • help communities share knowledge, resources and food skills
  • help participants:
    • feel more connected to others in their community
    • build self-confidence in group settings
    • build food skills
    • learn more about different types of foods, customs and culture. This can be very helpful for people who are new to Canada.

The Collective Kitchens Manual will help community groups start and maintain a collective kitchen.
