At AHS, we have a legal responsibility to ensure every person who provides care or support services to patients/clients undergo a security screening before starting their position as legislated in the Alberta Protection for Persons in Care Act.
Your employment with AHS is conditional upon receipt of a satisfactory criminal record check (CRC) or Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS), as per AHS Security Screening Procedure. As an employee, you have an ongoing duty to disclose to your manager as soon as reasonably possible, any criminal charges or convictions that may occur during your employment with AHS. Non-disclosure of a criminal charge or conviction may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of your employment.
As part of your pre-hiring tasks, you will receive an email with a link and instructions to submit your security screening documents through our online onboarding system. You cannot start work until your security checks are validated by Human Resources and confirmed as satisfactory.
Security screening requirements are based on three levels; please refer to your offer letter to confirm the required security level for your position.
Level | Position | Requirement | Position Examples |
---|---|---|---|
1 | All positions | Criminal record check | Admin Support, Food Service, Environmental, Unit Clerks, Service Workers, IT, Management Staff |
2 | Positions of trust or authority towards patients/clients | Vulnerable Sector Search (includes a criminal record check) | Nurses/Practical Nurses, Health Care Aides, Therapists |
3 | Enhanced security screening | Vulnerable Sector Search (includes criminal record check) and other externally specific additional requirements | Protective Services, Remand Positions |
For level 1 positions, you may also obtain a CRC through a third party provider, but you must obtain a VSS (includes a CRC) at your local law enforcement office.
