Vacation & Named Holidays

What You Need To Know

Vacation entitlement and accrual depends on your employee group, job details and years of service.

Review the Summary of Vacation Accrual Rates for your employee group.

Vacation

Vacation is a key benefit that enhances our wellbeing and promotes a healthy work-life balance.

Your annual vacation entitlement is determined by several factors, including the AHS Vacation Policy and your:

  • Employee group
  • Job details (full-time, part-time, casual, FTE)
  • Years of service

Unionized employees only: Note the vacation provisions in the Collective Agreements take precedence over the Vacation Policy if there is a conflict.

Accrual

You will accrue vacation throughout the vacation year, and are expected to use it within the allotted time, following the terms outlined in the Collective Agreements and Terms & Conditions of Employment.

Your vacation accrual rate depends on the factors listed above and is automatically calculated by the payroll system.

  • Full-time employees accrue vacation every pay period.
  • Part-time employees accrue vacation in proportion of their FTE every pay period.
  • Casual employees are paid a percentage of their regular earnings in lieu of vacation and observed holidays every pay period.
