Stroke is a Medical Emergency

If you have any of these symptoms, even if they go away quickly, call 911 or other emergency services right away.

FAST is a simple way to remember the main symptoms of stroke. Recognizing these symptoms helps you know when to call for medical help.

If you or a loved one have had a stroke, you may be facing many uncertainties. One thing you can count on is the high quality of Alberta’s stroke programs. We work with community groups across the province to offer Albertans affected by stroke their best chance to return to everyday life.

You can help prevent stroke by making healthy lifestyle choices. 

If you have had a stroke, you are at high risk for another stroke. That’s why it’s important to treat the causes of stroke, including heart disease, high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation (fast, irregular heartbeat), high cholesterol and diabetes.
