Travel Advisory Information

For the Public

The Government of Canada has introduced temporary border measures for travellers arriving from affected countries. These measures may include entry restrictions and enhanced health screening requirements. They are currently in effect until August 29, 2026, and may be changed as the situation evolves. For Healthcare Workers

Healthcare workers should notify their employer prior to travelling to or working in an Ebola-affected country.

Under the federal Quarantine Act, all individuals who have been to the DRC, Uganda and/or South Sudan in the last 21 days and do not have symptoms will be required to quarantine for 21 days. Workers should inform their employer of the quarantine period and expected return to work date.

Patient Care Processes

Communicable Disease Screening

Assess all patients at first point of entry (emergency departments, urgent care, labour and delivery, triage, etc.) for symptoms and risk factors using the Communicable Disease Screening flowsheet in Connect Care. Consider Ebola in patients who have travelled to a high-risk area or had a potential exposure within the past 21 days and have symptoms of fever and consistent non-specific symptoms.

Screening Resources

For a detailed list of symptoms, see PHAC Ebola Information for Health Professionals.

PPE Training Requirements

Viral Hemorrhagic Fever (VHF) Modules

These modules are most relevant for staff working in Emergency, Critical Care, Respiratory Therapy, Environmental Services, Pharmacy, Laboratory Services, and Labour and Delivery.

Each module takes approximately 20–30 minutes to complete and provides guidance on the PPE required when caring for patients with suspected or confirmed VHF/Ebola. They cover key infection prevention and control strategies, PPE selection and use, and the procedures for donning and doffing PPE.

Note: Workers with access to Insite should complete the modules through MyLearningLink to ensure completion is recorded in their employee file.

Laboratory Services

Do not order or collect any laboratory testing before consulting with an MOH.
