There is a current outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda. The risk of Ebola virus exposure in Alberta, and all of Canada, is low.
Public health officials in Alberta, together with federal partners, are closely monitoring the situation.

Designated VHF Sites: South Health Campus, Alberta Children’s Hospital, University of Alberta Hospital and Stollery Children’s Hospital
These sites maintain site-specific response resources and processes.
Staff at a Designated VHF site must complete the full VHF training program. This includes staff who work in the Emergency Department, Critical Care, Alta Paramedic Health, Respiratory, Environmental Services, Pharmacy, Lab, and other identified patient care areas.
1. Online VHF Modules
Staff must complete the four online VHF modules once and then every two years thereafter.
The modules provide information on PPE required when caring for patients with suspect or confirmed VHF. Each module takes 20-30 minutes to complete. The online modules are designed to support department-specific training needs.

Non designated sites include all rural, regional, and tertiary sites except the four designated hospitals.
Staff identified as part of the VHF response team, including Emergency Department, Critical Care, Respiratory, Pharmacy, Lab, must complete the following:
The Incident Response Paramedic (IRP) team train annually following the Designated VHF site direction.
All other Paramedic Services staff should follow the non-designated VHF site requirements.
